Hi, I’m Elle
I am a trauma-informed counsellor, couples therapist & a provisional psychologist. I'd love the opportunity to help you heal what you seek relief from through safe, supportive and non-judgmental therapy.
Are we the right fit?
I am an accredited therapist with lived experience. My aim is to help you feel empowered, manage distressing emotions, improve your relationships with self & others, as well as increase your self worth. I strongly believe in the power of human relationships, connection, and emotional growth. Some of my specialties include anxiety, relationships, trauma and life transitions.
My approach is deeply human and I work to recognize the wisdom inherent in all human beings. I believe in seeing people as more than their "pathology" and seek to look beyond a person's challenges or symptoms. I recognize the tremendous courage and resilience of the human spirit to cope with life's experiences. I believe that treatment should be tailored to each individual person. Therefore, I also seek to explore your past experiences, and earlier attachment as themes from the past have the power to affect our current behaviours and relationships.
Love & blessings, Elly

A modality grounded in the mind-body connection, somatic psychotherapy is the largest branch of somatic psychology. According to somatic therapy theory, the sensations associated with past trauma may become trapped within the body and reflected in facial expressions, posture, muscular pain, or other forms of body language. Trauma impacts the nervous system and increases the likelihood of being "stuck" in flight-fight state. Body-orientated approaches can help us safety return to a more regulated baseline and facilitate healing and growth.
Somatic issues can look like: Emotional/physical triggers + flashbacks, inability to process emotions, hypervigilant, shut down, withdrawal, fear and panic, sleeplessness, aggression, ability to cope with stress compromised.
Our early attachment experiences with our primary caregivers shape the adults that we become. During childhood, everyone forms connections in the brain, so they can interact socially, emotionally, and mentally. When a child is raised in an abusive or neglectful environment, the links they make are maladaptive. Children living in an unhealthy home environment make connections that help them "survive," and they learn to rely on these maladaptive survival skills long past the time when they're needed. The goals of attachment-based psychotherapy are to address the limiting effects of negative early attachment experiences and to strengthen the capacity for secure relationships and adaptive actions in the world.
Attachment issues can look like: Fear of rejection/abandonment, codependency, fear of losing oneself, withdrawal, emotional unavailability, avoiding conflict, self-destructive behaviours.
